Problem and Solution
In the Salon de Paris, there were very strict rules on what kind of art can be shown at the art exhibition and were judged before they could be shown. Because of this Claude Monet was unable to show any of his work in these exhibitions along with many other artist. This is what caused him and three other artist to create The Cooperative and Anonymous Association of Painters, Sculptors, and Engravers. In this exhibition artist of all sorts were allowed to present any form of art without having to go through a judgement as long as they were willing to pay 60 frances to enter into the exhibition. This is also where Monet presented his painting Impression, Sunrise, which gave to art style its name. The total of paintings in the exhibition was 165, and many of them did not sell. The reason for them not selling was not that they were bad paintings or sculptures, it was that the painters were asking too much for their art, some asking for 500 francs. Even Monets most famous painting Impression, Sunrise did not sell at the exhibition because the price was much too high for anyone. Even if the number of art works put into the exhibition was only 165, the attendance to this exhibition was around 3500, give or take some. Monet was even able to present his painting, The Luncheon, which had previously been rejected by many other exhibitions.
